Illustration of KARAMED Telemedicine App: Video, voice and chat consultations plus medical report sharing, from UI/UX to the Play Store.

Overview

KARAMED is a telemedicine app that connects patients with doctors through video calls, voice calls and text chat. Patients and doctors can submit and download medical reports in the app. I built it solo in React Native, owning everything from UI/UX design to implementation, and it is published on Google Play.

The challenge

Remote consultations only work if calls connect reliably, the app is simple enough for patients of any age, and medical documents travel securely with each consultation. As a solo developer, I also had to own design, build and release.

The solution

I designed the UI/UX and built the app in React Native, with three ways to consult (video, voice and text chat) and in-app report submission and download, so documents stay attached to the care conversation.

Key features

  • Video calling

    Face-to-face consultations inside the app.

  • Voice calling

For low-bandwidth situations or patients who prefer audio.

  • Text chat

    Asynchronous questions and follow-ups.

  • Report submission and download

Patients and doctors exchange medical reports in the app.

Tech stack and why

React Native
One codebase for a solo developer, with native-feeling UI and access to camera, microphone and file APIs needed for calls and reports.

Architecture

  1. Real-time communication layer for video, voice and chat.
  2. File handling for report upload and download.
  3. Store listing declares data encrypted in transit and supports deletion requests (from the Google Play Data safety section).

Process

  1. UI/UX design for both patient and doctor journeys.

  2. React Native implementation.

  3. Integrated calling, chat and report handling.

  4. Prepared and released on Google Play.

Outcomes

  • Patients can consult doctors remotely by video, voice or chat from one app.
  • Medical reports travel with the consultation instead of over separate channels.
  • The app is published and listed on Google Play.
